I chose the ELA technology standards for the kindergarten grade level. The standards listed are described as helping them explore more than one type of digital tool to create and post writing. The types of technology listed were the smartboard, story jumper, and the program paint. I feel almost fully prepared to implement these standards based on my skill set. I specifically chose the Kindergarten age group standards because I remembered how little technology I had when in that grade but seeing it now it is impressive what is being taught so soon. But yes, I do feel ready to implement these standards because I have a strong base of knowledge on what would be asked of me.

I found the resources CPALMS educator tool kit to be extremely useful and I could see how they really could come in handy in the classroom. The resource I chose is called, "Once Upon a Retelling" and it does through the story of The Three Little Pigs in an interactive video where the students would be able to identify the characters and setting of the story as well as retell the story at the beginning, middle, and end. I would use this tool in my classroom because it allows the students to do things at their own pace while navigating the different technical tools of the interactive video. It also teaches students the important skill of recalling a story and identifying key parts of a story.

It is important to be a proficient internet searcher as a teacher for many reasons such as, accurately creating lesson plans, answering questions quickly you may not know the answer to, finding research on teaching techniques, etc. There is a lot a teacher can accomplish by just being a little more efficient as an internet searcher. Of the searching skills, we learned this week I will most likely be implementing excluding words from search results, this is when you add the dash before a phrase you would like to exclude. I think this is an incredibly useful tool in order to get to exactly what you are looking for faster and to definitely get rid of articles that have nothing to do with your topic. I do not really have any advanced internet searching skills that we did not talk about. I do really like to use the tool of searching within an article though using the  command+F function on my laptop.

  1. Hi Bri,
I think it is interesting that you brought up how much technology is being introduced to kindergarteners so early on in their childhood development, and I wonder if it will have/has had an impact on their development as a whole, including social skills and cognitive processes. I think this would be an interesting question to further explore and as a teacher at this age, you could observe them yourself.
